And a new study has officially confirmed the truth: human love for dogs is so great that it surpasses both relatives and friends.

Specifically, the study carried out experiments on 240 students. They read some reports of dogs and humans being attacked. To him, it was an assault "by a baseball batman," and the dog was "knocked unconscious, broke one leg and suffered serious injuries."

Victims in these reports are children, adults, puppies and adult dogs. After that, the group was asked to assess the level of sympathy for each victim.

As a result, empathy for dogs (both puppies and adult dogs) and children is higher than adult ones. In it, the compassionate point of the adult dog is slightly lower than the child.

This means, we humans tend to favor children and pets first, then newcomers. According to Jack Levin, the reason for this is because humans do not consider dogs an animal, but "like a baby covered in fur".

"The subjects did not see the dog as an animal, but like a baby covered with fur, or an indispensable member of the family," Levin said.

Besides, it is not natural for dogs to gain human affection. A previous study published in the journal Scientific Reports found evidence that dogs can control facial expressions to attract human attention.

"The process of domestication has helped dogs change, making them more interactive with humans." Says Bridget Waller, professor of evolution psychology at Portsmouth University.
